BRIDGING
The old building always acts as a historical memory of the surrounding. However, most general public in China think the old buildings can often be easily scraped as replacement parts. How to give historic buildings a second life instead of demolishing them? This approach in this project is to bridge the buildings and introduce new public spaces on the roof in order to create a tension of contrast.
In ancient China, bridge was a kind of public place for variety of social activities. In this project, the significance of bridge was reapplied. The internal link bridges the private space with the public space, history with present.
