Is an architecture conceivable that can express the measurable suffering, the nameless pain, endless loss of the 512 earthquake? – Hardly. Can architecture bring hope to the people and the city? –Possibly.
After the 512 "Wenchuan" earthquake in 2008, the Dujiangyan city is now promoting its urban redevelopment. If the earthquake was an accidental demolition to the city, the current urbanization movement is intentionally to erase less appealing urban structures. How to keep the "city memory"? How to design the "city future"? I believed that the memorial is rather than a place about death and sadness, but it is a place to look forward. Therefore, I designed a building for normal people, and also for all the ordinary lives, for their hope and their future.
